What can you expect from a good children's ski school?
To be sure that your children are in good hands, you should take some important matters into consideration with respect to children's courses when selecting a ski school.
First of all it is very important, that the ski school offers special courses, geared to children.
Such children's courses should contain the following:
An own area in the skiing centre, specially equipped for children, is very conducive to the motivation of the small ski dwarfs. By using playful training aids (gates to ski through, cables, small huts etc.) can bring variation into the classes to make the learning process easier and sometimes even shorter.
A conveye beltl (e.g. a children's lift etc.) certainly is a pleasant advantage for beginners, but we should not forget, that the kids must also learn to "conquer a slope" with a slight incline on their own. Learning how to find balance on the skis by going step by step, is a skill, that is often neglected in the children's ski courses, but it is very important for a future skier.
Included lunch breaks under supervision is another matter, that should be a part of a successful children's ski course: on the one hand having lunch with the group stimulates a good, familiar and safe climate and on the other, the parents know that their kids are in good hands. It definitely is the ski instructor having the biggest job to give the children pleasure in skiing: when the bond between instructor and child is based on trust, aknowledgement of the needs and positive charisma, most of the time it is just a matter of time making a child feel happy in the group.
Now and then it is even better to leave your kid behind in the group all by him/herself, because the distraction of the parents can be big.
When all these matters are offered and there is an additional programme for the kids besides the classes in addition, success and fun in the ski course is guaranteed!
When it is the first time on skis, it is relatively easy. The course starts with "walking on skis". After all, our junior experts have to learn to move e.g. from the meeting point to the ski lift.
The conveyer belt (magic carpet) will be used pretty quick as well. The magic carpet is an aid that should not be underestimated, not only because the kids can "climb the hill" without the intructor's help, but also because it saves the condition of the kids.
Although it seems that our ski dwarfs don't maken much progress in the beginning, they will surprise you after a few days. Suddenly you will find your offspring in the lift!
Sunday 9.30 am...an exciting day for our junior ski school guests. For most children it is quite an issue to "demonstrate their skills" Being on skis again the first time since a long time and skiing down the slope immediately is not an easy job!
The demonstration of the skills basically just determines the starting level of the kids. Because sometimes the exact skills of the children are first visible after a day or two, the group division can be changed during the course.
At the Ski & Snowboard school Lofer, Georg Herbst, on the first day we try to create a good group dynamics. This is really necessary for the furhter learning process.
In accordance with the level of the group, the skills of each individual student are developped after that. Most of the time, we will get to the technical programme in the morning, the afternoon is used to get stronger and of course to have a lot of fun!To accomplish all this, we have to following aids at our disposal:
Lofino Ski-Cross: A kind of obstacle track with waves and and sharp, steep curves. The Ski-Cross is used to imrpove the following skills:
• Limberness, balance and coordination • Judge the ground types and make the most of the possibilities • Speed control on variable grounds
Ropes: A visible self-control to solve available difficulties during skiing in a playful way.
SnowSails: This "parachute" with its braking effect is helpful in case of position difficulties and enables the kids to ski steeper slopes.
